Student life

Lincoln is a lively, multicultural, student-friendly city and one of the fastest growing in the UK. Retaining the same quaintness and charm of smaller cities by managing to blend its historical past with the contemporary seamlessly, making for a dynamic and exciting place to live, work, and study.

Moving away from home can be daunting. That's why we do everything we can to make your move to BGU as smooth and hassle-free as possible. We have a great selection of rooms available to you and, as a first year student, we'll guarantee you accommodation.

We also have a thriving Students' Union, where you have the chance to connect with like-minded people through a wide range of clubs and societies. Your SU also runs Freshers Week, with events and activities to help you make new friends and settle you into university life.

What's it like to live in East Midlands?
Check out our region guide

The East Midlands comprises five counties, with its main cities being Derby, Leicester, Lincoln and Nottingham.

The region has plenty of history, boasting both the world’s first factory and its first pub (allegedly). It also has many castles, cathedrals and stately homes, including Chatsworth House, which has served as the backdrop to period films like Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice.

And, of course, you’ll find the gorgeous Peak District here. If you end up studying in the East Midlands, definitely make a trip to explore its rolling green hills, peatlands, and quaint market towns – like Buxton, the caverns of Castleton, and Bakewell (home of the famous tart).

Split into ancient Uphill and more contemporary Downhill – with an emphasis on the ‘hill’ bit – this small historical cathedral city has seen it all.

Campus and facilities

We're located on a beautifully green and pleasant campus just a few minutes’ walk from Lincoln Cathedral, Castle and the old Roman city. We’ve been here for a very long time, developing and growing with the city around us. Some of our buildings date from the 1840s and are still in use today. We complement these fine Victorian buildings with modern facilities and state-of-the-art teaching and learning spaces, providing an enticing mix of the old and the new, the intimate and the expansive.

But, of course, the academic side of things is only one part of studying for a degree. Our students also need to make sure that their university can satisfy their hunger, thirst and entertainment needs. With places on campus to eat, drink, relax, meet friends, socialise, and exercise, we certainly manage to pack a lot into our campus to keep you busy!
