Student life

Life at Harper is about so much more than just your studies — it’s about life experience, discovering talents and passions and stepping into a wide range of future careers. You just need to join us!

Take sport for instance. With our all-weather pitches, you can bet our Harper teams are either playing, training or practising something — no matter the conditions. But if sport isn’t your thing, there are plenty of on-campus hot sports to rest and relax! Take the Graze Café for instance; the perfect place to grab a bacon butty (made from produce on our working farm) and a homemade brownie or two.

Our Big Wednesday afternoons also give many students down time to explore the campus. You can play sport, engage with socities, read, shop, see friends, or whatever it is you need to unwind. After an afternoon of relaxation, you’ll be more than ready for our Student’s Union Big Wednesday nights out.

Come see Harper for yourself. Find out about our next open day here: http://harper.ac.uk/haevents

What's it like to live in West Midlands?
Check out our region guide

The West Midlands is made up of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire. Its main cities are Birmingham, Coventry, and Wolverhampton.

It’s the most diverse part of the country behind London, with a proud multicultural history, from the birth of Two-Tone music in Coventry – a combination of Caribbean ska and English punk – to the Balti curry, courtesy of Birmingham’s Pakistani community.

Once the heart of heavy industry and manufacturing, and the inspiration for Peaky Blinders, Birmingham is one of the youngest cities in Europe, with over 40% under 25 years old.

Campus and facilities

We’ve invested more than £50 million in our campus over the last decade, with a focus on keeping that close campus community feel whilst offering our students all the specialist resources they’ll need to thrive in the real world.

At our Harper campus, you could be handling livestock on our commercial farm, or creating experimental cuisine in the Food Academy, suturing animals in our Veterinary Education Centre or racing self-built robots in the Soil Hall.  There’s also a pub/bar on site – the wonderful Welly Inn and Barn - multiple café hot spots, doctor’s surgery, a shop, gym facilities and free parking.

We’re also in the heart of the rural Shropshire countryside, so you’re never too far away from gorgeous scenery, parkland walks and areas of natural beauty. Looking for that city feel? Don’t worry, we’re less than an hour away from Birmingham City Centre and 20 minutes away from Telford and its array of shops, cinemas, an ice rink, bowling alley and even an Exotic Zoo.
