Helena Sturridge

Director

Helena Sturridge spent the first 30 years of her career in business to business publishing, and more recently spent eight years working with the Royal Colleges' of Physicians on the development of a portfolio of examinations which are now an essential part of the postgraduate training of clinicians across the world. She joined the UCAS Media Board in March 2017.

She trained as a journalist with Haymarket Publishing, and went on to work on a number of award winning publications. She was the launch editor of Personnel Today, went on to be Editor in Chief of two medical weeklies Hospital Doctor and Doctor, and then took on the challenge of the leading IT newspaper, Computer Weekly, just as business publications were introducing multi-media streams. She has held a number of senior positions with the major business to business publishers including Reed Business Publishing, United Media, and Emap. These involved managing leading magazine brands across broad based business market sectors, at the time when they were in transition from paper-based publications to multi-media streams which included conferences, events, and web-based news and information services.

In 2007 she took up the role of Chief Operating Officer to work with the Royal Colleges' of Physicians with a remit to professionalise the leading postgraduate medical examination in readiness for approval by the new regulator. At the same time she launched a portfolio of new examinations which are now established as a mandatory part of the training of consultants in UK hospitals.

She has a degree in English literature from the University of York and is now a volunteer with Prince's Trust charity, Mosaic. The charity brings together business mentors to work with young people to boost their confidence, self-efficacy and long term employability. Helena also volunteers with her local hospital trust to improve the experience of its patients.
