Stand Alone – Estranged Students Solidarity Week 2022

The annual Estranged Students Solidarity Week 21 – 25 November, run by Stand Alone, raises awareness of the barriers estranged students face in higher education.

Stand Alone is a charity whose mission it is to raise awareness of estrangement and to support people who are experiencing estrangement from one or more family members.

Estranged students are young people studying without the support and approval of a family network. Young people in this position often have no contact at all with their family and have removed themselves from a dysfunctional situation or have been disowned.

Those students in higher education have no financial or emotional support from their parents. They rely on their own resilience and resources and the help, advice and support they receive from their school or college to progress into higher education. The support they can get from the university of their choice is key to enabling them to succeed in their course.
